Pathways Project Fisheries
WHAT FISHERIES ARE INVOLVED?
- Lake Manitoba
- Lake Winnipeg North Basin
- Lake Winnipeg South Basin
- Lake Winnipegosis
Through the MSC Pathways Project they will all be supported as they advance towards sustainability, with the ulitmate goal of becoming MSC certified. These fisheries are some of Manitoba’s largest fisheries, which provide Walleye, Whitefish, Sauger and Pike to local and international markets.
Improvement in Action
Progress so far includes:
- Identification of sustainability gaps through pre‑assessment and action plan development.
- Contribution to University College of the North collaborative stock monitoring work Learn more about this initiative: UCN Collaborates on Fish Stock Monitoring Program – University College of the North
- Workshop with fisher representatives, managers, ENGO’s and supply chain partners hosted by MSC to develop collaborative strategies on ghost gear, logbook implementation and harvest control rules.
